A fantastic new store has landed on Carnaby Street: Queen The Greatest opened its doors on 28 September and will stay until January 2022.
Spread across two floors, the shop takes fans on a journey through all five decades of the band’s history, with each era brought to life through its own visual installation, from a 1970s-style thrift stall (a nod to the Kensington Market days of Freddie Mercury and Roger Taylor) right through to a dedicated records room. Alongside the storytelling, there’s a rolling line-up of limited edition music releases, fashion collaborations and lifestyle products.
I popped along, and I must say it’s a must for any fan of Queen. I loved seeing the archive live photography charting the band across the decades, and I fell for rather a lot of the merch on offer. Getting up close to guitars signed by Brian May was a real treat, and I couldn’t resist picking up an exclusive Freddie Mercury T-shirt. Proceeds from that particular tee go to the Mercury Phoenix Trust, the charity founded by Brian May, Roger Taylor and Jim Beach in Freddie Mercury’s memory, which raises vital funds and awareness for the fight against HIV/AIDS.
Whether you’re after exclusive items, a go on the very cool Queen pinball machine, a T-shirt supporting the Mercury Phoenix Trust, or simply a browse through the memorabilia, there’s something here for everyone.
What To Expect
The store will have weekly new product drops and events, with each month built around its own theme: Music, then Art & Design, then Magic. So what are you waiting for? Head down to one of the coolest streets in London and treat yourself to something you won’t find anywhere else.
For anyone who can’t make it to Carnaby Street in person, a selection of items, including the vinyl releases, is available online at the Queen Online Store.
What They’re Saying
Queen said: “We are pleased to collaborate with Bravado on this project, which will be an exciting experience for everyone to come to London and enjoy. Carnaby Street was the perfect spot for the store to celebrate five decades.”
David Boyne, MD of Bravado, added: “We are delighted to announce this innovative partnership with Queen. The project will add another cultural moment to their rich legacy and will be a destination for fans to immerse themselves in the music, style and spirit of one of the world’s most iconic and beloved bands.”
