Demob Happy + Al Costelloe at La Boule Noire, Paris (Review + Photos)

On the first Friday of October, Demob Happy played for an eager crowd at La Boule Noire in Paris.

Although it was the English band’s first time performing in Paris, they sold out the venue and repeated how happy they were to finally be here after wanting to play here for the longest time. Their energy reflected on the crowd; it was everything you could ever want in a gig: fan interactions, surfers, an ever-present and energetic drummer (Thomas Armstrong), and spectacular performance.

La Boule Noire is a small but sweet venue, built like a 70s underground bar and decorated accordingly, coincidentally matching the aura and energy of lead singer and bassist Matthew Marcantonio. The small stage didn’t stop the two backup singers—cleverly introduced as “She-mob Happy”—from giving it their all vocally and a fun rehearsed choreography to match the music.

Overall, the night was filled with catchy, moody music, skillful guitar riffs from Adam Godfrey, and a masterclass in alternative rock.
